Expressions and Linear Equations⇲
Straightforward approach to find solutions to real world problems
What is Linear Equation?
A linear equation is an algebraic equation in which the highest power of the variable (usually denoted as “x” or “y”) is 1. It has the general form:
ax + b = 0
In this equation:
“x” represents the variable.
“a” and “b” are constants, with “a” not equal to 0.
The solution to a linear equation is the value of the variable that makes the equation true. For the equation ax + b = 0, the solution is:
x = -b/a
Linear equations are fundamental in algebra and mathematics.
They are relatively straightforward to solve and are the building blocks for more complex mathematical concepts, such as systems of linear equations and linear functions.
Linear equations can also be graphed as straight lines on a coordinate plane, which is why they are called “linear” equations.
