What is Data Migration?
The process of movement of data from one system or location to other system or location is called Data Migration. Data selected, extracted, prepared, cleansed and processed, transformed and finally transferred to another location on computer storage system is called data transfer or data migration. Before data migration the source and place or location where data needs to be transferred need to be explored and planned out properly. There are multiple steps involved in data transfer:
- Access the data source
- Design and map out the migration
- Build the migration solution
- Conduct a live initial test to validate the correctness of migration
- Flipping the switch
- Audit the migration to help in resolving defects or leftover data.
