Allergy testing is a process used to identify specific allergens that may be triggering allergic reactions in individuals. There are several methods of Allergy Testing by Specialists and Levels of Discomfort-III, experienced during allergy testing. Discomfort may vary depending on the individual body type and the specific testing method used.
1. Skin Prick Test (SPT)
This is one of the most common allergy tests. During an SPT, a small amount of allergen extract is placed on the skin, usually on the forearm or back.
Then, the skin is pricked or scratched to allow the allergen to enter the skin. If one is allergic to the substance, they will develop a small, itchy bump (called a wheal) at the site within about 15–20 minutes.
Discomfort level: The pricking or scratching sensation during an SPT is typically mild and brief. It may feel like a quick pinch or scratch, similar to a mosquito bite. Most people find the discomfort to be tolerable and not overly painful.
